“Loud and Proud – Let’s start marching now” that’s the theme of the Kuala Lumpur World Marching Band Competition ’08. This year, it is held in Stadium Merdeka and Dataran Merdeka. With about 20 bands competiting, for the coveted title of the Champion of the Battle of Bands. 30th July was the National Marching Band Competition, the top 5 finalist will be entitled a place to represent Malaysia in the KLWMBC.
After securing a place to represent Malaysia, we were once again dressed up in our marching band outfit, all ready, to once again march into the field of Stadium Merdeka. It is the Preliminary Show Competition 1. About 10 of the competing bands will be performing in this round. When it was our turn, we entered the field, it was a whole new experience, feeling both excited and yet, nervous. But the members kept a cool head, and performed their best. We performed our 2008 marching show, which consists of Ride, Ku Mohon, Mangione Opener and Tanah Pusaka.
1st August was the Official Opening Ceremony and Street Parade Competition. Each band will be featured parading at the Dataran Merdeka, with a short display or performance in front of the Grand Stand. The next day was the Preliminary Show Competition 2. Since we have already performed in Prelim 1, we get to sit in the stands, watching the other bands perform. It was very inspiring, witnessing some very entertaining and spectacular shows.
