About John Low

John Low, born 1988 in a small town in Malaysia, first started showcasing his artistic talents at the age of 4, scribbling monsters and creatures on the wall of his house. He continues his venture into the art world, taking up drawing, colouring and painting lessons at tuition centres when he was 7, taking part in numerous art competitions throughout his primary school years. During his days as a teenager, he preferred the company of a pencil and sketchpad to a basketball. Apart from graphical designs, John went on to express his passion for the arts in the form of music, thus joining the Nan Hwa Band in 2001, when he entered secondary school, as a Saxophonist. John continued to draw and sketch during his free time, until one day, he discovered what he considered the greatest invention by mankind – Photoshop.
In 2004, John was given the opportunity to travel aboard and was glad that he enrolled himself in a high school course at Taylors College Sydney, where he took up Visual Arts. During those 2 years, he was taught the very principals of fine arts and for his final major work, he produced a series of self-portrait photographs manipulated digitally using Photoshop.

John then furthered his education in creative media when he enrolled into the Bachelor of Digital Media course at the University of New South Wales. He decided to focus his studies on 3D modelling and animation due to his passion for Japanese animation and role-playing console games. John graduated with a average distinction in a 2009 with a 8 minute long 3D animation entitled “The Buffet of Life” under his belt and a series of 7 movie promotional posters entitled “Project Gemini” which was chosen as one of the best graduate artwork to be re-exhibited at the Verge Gallery, Sydney.

Currently doing his Honours year of the course, John is aiming to produce a highly anticipated action packed 3D-animated cinematic game trailer for his major project. Work experience-wise, John has done numerous freelance designs for clients all over the world, mainly for his friends and their associates. He has also produced advertisements, brochures, posters and banners for the Japanese restaurant where he worked as a part time waiter/designer. John also co-owns Sonique Design & Photography, a design and photography studio based in Sydney and has done designs for various clients.
