7th February 2009, all sportsmen and sportswomen of Nan Hwa gathered at the school field for our annual Sports Day event. The event started off with the customary Opening Ceremony, which includes the marching in of the different uniform bodies, namely, the school’s 4 official sports team: Enggang, Merak, Helang and Rajawali, and other uniform contingents. The Nan Hwa Military Band took part in the opening ceremony just like every other year, as the band’s tradition to fulfill the task giving a fanfare of brass, wind and percussion to enhance the overall atmosphere of the event.
Equipped with their instruments and marching skills, the band marched into the field, sparking the start of the opening ceremony. As the other contingents started moving across the field, the band played their music with their head up high, creating more energy with each beat of the bass drum.
Once all the uniform bodies taken their positions on the field, the band stopped it’s playing and the opening speech was given.
Then it was the Flag Raising ceremony, with the band playing the Flag Raising Song, all the people on the field saluted towards the flag, watching as the flag rises.
Marking the end of the Opening Ceremony, it was time for the marching out of the uniform bodies. The band was the last contingent to move out the field, marching gracefully pass the VIP stand and towards their exit.
The closing ceremony, namely Bringing down the Flag, saw a selected few from the percussion perform a drum solo for the ceremony.
